While growing up in Chicago, I became fascinated with film at an early age. I was a five year old in love with a VCR. Blockbusters, black and white classics, I tried to see it all. Even if my parents had to cover my eyes at some parts. (Especially when my parents tried to cover my eyes).
A childhood love of photography and painting began to develop my skills of telling stories visually. To expand the stories beyond a single frame I moved to New York City to study film at NYU. Taking as many cinematography classes as I could, I was among the last generation of filmmakers to learn how to make movies on a negative while also being given a head start on the digital revolution.
After graduating, I worked in the camera department for commercials, music videos, and feature films. I have worked for and learned from some of the best DPs and crews in New York. It has been a fantastic way to learn and develop skills. I have been afforded the opportunity to travel the country in the camera department of ABC’s Final Witness, shooting Made promos for MTV, and most recently shooting in the Bakken Oil Reserve in North Dakota.
While having lived here in Brooklyn for several years, I’m never away from my home for too long. My production partners in Chicago and I are always exploring the limits of what can be done on a micro budget. We started our experiments with that first miracle of prosumer cameras the 24P DVX-100, trying to make television style narratives for the web. We’ve upgraded over the years, allowing me to become well versed in the most ubiquitous of low budget tools: the DSLR. My friends at Visual Edge Entertainment Inc and I are excited for the release of our web series House Arrest and the comedy pilot Rejected later this year.
Whether big budget or no budget, Red Epic or 5D I’m always working toward evolving my skill and my aesthetic sensibilities, in order to provide excellence to every project I work on.
